In order to become a Ranger in Cassette Beasts you need to defeat all 12 Captains that are scattered throughout New Wirral. This guide will show you all the locations of the Captains and how to access them.
You get access to your Ranger Trainee Card when you begin the quest Take Me On. Leader Ianthe will challenge you to defeat all 12 Captains in order to join the Rangers.
You can access the Ranger's Outpost in Harbourtown. This is where you can spend your Fused Material items for upgrades.
All Captain Locations
You can use the map above to find all the locations of all the captains.
When you defeat all 12, head to the Ranger's Outpost in Harbourtown and speak to Leader Ianthe.
Captain Wallace
Captain Wallace is the first Captain on your list that you need to beat to become a Ranger in Cassette Beasts. He can be found hiding out at New Wirral Park.
To reach Captain Wallace, you'll need the Electromagnetism ability. On the west side of New Wirral Park you'll find a hanging magnetic block; using Electromagnetism you can pull yourself up onto the wall and then head over to find Captain Wallace.
Captain Wallace Fight
- Captain Wallace: Traffikrab (Plastic), Lobstacle (Plastic)
- Construction Worker: Traffikrab (Plastic)
As ever with these Captain challenges, you'll want to take out the Construction Worker Traffikrab first so that you set the fight up to be 2v1.
Traffikrab are Plastic Type, so you'll want to use Earth or Fire types to debuff them. Lobstacle is the upgraded version of Traffikrab, but you shouldn't have too much trouble taking them out.
Rewards:
- Elemental Wall
- Fused Material
- Upgrape
Captain Skip
Captain Skip can be found on a small sandy island near Harbourtown. You'll need the Surf ability in order to reach him.
- Captain Skip: Binvader (Metal), Binterloper (Plastic)
- Ranger: Binvader (Metal)
Probably the easier Captain out of the 12. The only way you lose this fight is if you're extremely under-leveled.
Rewards:
- Binvasion
- Fused Material
- Olive-Up!
Captain Zedd
Scattershot is a quest you can pick up by speaking to a sleeping man named Zedd found in Autumn Hills.
He will first ask you to defeat 5 Bulletinos, which you should be able to easily found in the immediate area of Autumn Hills.
Once you defeat 5, you'll be able to challenge Zedd to a Ranger Training Challenge:
Battle: Zedd
- Zedd: Stardigrade (Astral) Level 22, Galagor (Astral) Level 22
- Ranger: Salamangus (Fire) Level 22
You'll want to take out the Salamangus first to get the first down to a 2v1. Since Salamangus is a Fire type, you can use these types to debuff it: Air, Astral, Earth, Water.
The Stardigrade will use Hibernate, which puts it to sleep for 3 turns and will heal each turn. You shouldn't focus on the Stardigrade until you've taken out the Salamangus, as the heal will just be too much to keep up with. You can cast Leeched to counteract the Hibernate heal.
Like Stardigrade, the Galagor also uses Hibernate. As Astral types, you'll want to use Plastic types to cast AP Drain on them.

Captain Judas
Captain Judas can be found on the beach just below The Deadlands called the Southern Isles. You will need the Surf ability in order to access this Captain.
Fight:
- Judas: Manispear (Metal), Jellyton (Poison)
- Ranger: Dandylion (Plant)
Immediately focus on the Dandylion. Fire attacks are great to use against Plant type. By taking out the Dandylion first, you'll stop it from casting Doc Leaf, which can heal every turn.
Using Water Types against Metal and Fire against Poison are good strategies to use against Judas.
Rewards:
- Acid Reflex
- Fused Material
- Olive-Up!
Captain Clee-O
Next up, we are going to head to Eastham Woods to fight Captain Clee-O.
You can access this area by heading to the marked location on the map above; you'll need to use your Bulletino Dash to smash through the rock and whirlwind.
Now head towards the second red circle. You'll come across a Robot that needs a Coin to operate and you'll activate the quest Coin-Operated.
You can find the Coin at The Deadlands area, just below Autumn Hill.
You can use this Whirlwind to then climb up onto the tall mountain and there you'll find the Gold coin!
Now head back to the Robot and put the coin into it.
The Robot reveals itself to be Captain Clee-O!
Captain Clee-O
- Clee-O: Allseer (Metal), Triphinx (Metal)
- Ranger: Masquerattle (Poison)
This fight is quite easy; Masquerattle will cast Gambit, which will increase the stats of the opponent massively. However, after 3 rounds, it will automatically be defeated.
All you have to do is outlast the rounds; simply build defensive blocks around your characters and you'll be good.
Check out the video below for how we did it:
Rewards:
- Gambit
- Fused Material
- Upgrape
Captain Lodestein
Captain Lodestein can be found north of Eastham Woods in an area called Ham.
To get to Captain Lodestein you'll need the Electromagnetism ability. Head to the top of Mt. Wirral and on right hand side is an area called Ham. It can be accessed via Eastham Woods also.
In the middle of the area is a Lever; pulling it will cause tower blocks to rise up immediately. You will need to pull the Lever and then quickly position yourself so you can ride the block as if goes up.
Once on the block, you can glide across to the other two. Then use your Electromagnetism to pull yourself across to Captain Lodestein.
Battle:
- Captain Lodestein: Wingloom (Lightning). Plasmantler (Lightning)
- Ranger: Manispear (Metal)
Take out the Manispear first; water attacks will add debuffs to it since it's Metal type.
The Wingloom and Plasmantler are Lightning types. Lightning can be debuffed with Unitarget using either Earth, Plant, Plastic or Glass. Watch out for Plasmantler's Battery attack; with Multitarget it can really cause your party some problems.
Rewards:
- Iron Filings
- Fused Material
- Upgrape
Captain Penny Dreadful
Captain Penny Dreaful can be found hanging out at The Deadlands. If you head to the same area where we picked up the Coin for Clee-O, you can make your way towards her.
- Penny: Skelevangelist (Earth), Djinn Entonic (Astral)
- Ranger: Sanzatime (Earth)
Similar to Cleo-O fight, Skelevangelist will cast Ghost on itself, making it invincible for 3 turns, but then will perish after. If you can cast Berserk on it before it gets to move you can prevent the effect altogether.
You'll want to take out the Sanzatime as soon as possible as it will cast Dog Years, which increases the amount of turns Ghost lasts for.
Both monsters are of Earth type, so using Metal types can apply debuffs to it.
Penny's second monster is Djinn Entonic, which is Astral type. Metal, Plastic and Poison types all apply a debuff to Astral.

Rewards:
- Ritual
- Fused Material
- Olive-Up!
Captain Gladiola
Captain Gladiola can be found at the bottom left of the map on a sandy island. You'll need the Surf ability in order to access this Captain.
When you reach the Island, you'll see Captain Gladiola on a tall tower. There is a Lever sticking out of it, that when pushed will create a whirlwind for you to use to access Gladiola. The whirlwind doesn't last long though, so try to be speedy!
Fight:
- Gladiola: Palangolin (Metal), Cryoshear (Ice)
- Ranger: Southpaw (Metal)
Metal Types are weak to Fire, Water and Electric types; they all add debuffs to Metal when attacking. Water types add two defensive debuffs that allow you to deal more damage.
Both of these monsters like to use Evasion Up and decrease your Accuracy, so if you have any moves to counter this you better use them.
Cryoshear is Ice type; you can turn it to Water type using Fire attacks too. Either way these monsters shouldn't pose too much trouble.
Rewards:
- Jaggged Edge
- Fused Material
- Upgrape
Captain Heather
Captain Heather can be found on a small island to the far east of New Wirral. You'll need the Surf ability to access her.
- Captain Heather: Aeroboros (Air), Huntorch (Plant)
- Ranger: Spooki-onna (Ice)
Spooki-onna should be your main target first: Ice is weak against Metal types and Fire will change it to Water type. Spooki-onna will cast Snowed-In status effect, making you only able to use Ranged attacks- so make sure you have party members with ranged attacks!
Overall the fight is pretty easy; since Spooki-onna constantly casts Avalanche that deals no damage, you can take your time taking it out.
Rewards:
- Avalanche
- Fused Material
- Upgrape
Captain Buffy
The next captain we take on in our quest to becoming a Ranger is Captain Buffy. Captain Buffy can be found at Cherry Meadow.
If you head to the east of Cherry Meadow you can find a smashable rock; use Bulletino Dash to break it and a whirlwind will appear, allowing you to get up onto the platform.
From there, you can make your way across the walls of Cherry Meadow; you'll come to a bridge you can raise by pulling a Lever. Just across from that you'll be able to find Captain Buffy.
- Buffy: Liligator (Water), Grampus (Ice)
- Ranger: Dandylion (Plant)
During this fight, the Dandylion will help buff the Liligator by providing AP. When Liligator's AP bar is full, it will perform Last Rites, which will usually 1-hit KO your monster . Getting a defensive wall up during this phase is critical.
Plant type is weak to Fire so bring the hellfire down on the Dandylion.
After you take out Liligator, Grampus will be next on the chopping block. Grampus is Ice type; if you hit it with Fire it will turn to Water type. Grampus will also use the Last Rites move; if struggling, using Fusion can help tank a lot of the damage.
Rewards:
- AP Starter
- Fused Material
- Olive-Up!
Captain Cybil
Captain Cybil can be found just south of Cherry Meadow near the swamp.
- Cybil: Sparktan (Lightning), Sirenade (Air)
- Ranger: Cluckabilly (Air)
When taking out Air types, it's best to use Astral, Ice or Lightning for debuffs. Once you take out the Cluckabilly, you should then avoid using the following types: Air, Ice, Metal and Water as they will add Multitarget status which will cause you more problems.
This fight can lead to a few problems due to Sparktan's Shrapnel move; each time you switch out your monsters you're dealt hefty damage. What's worse, is that Cluckabilly will use a move to force you to switch out your monsters.
Overall this fight shouldn't cause you too many problems as both monsters are not fully evolved so their stats are low.
Rewards:
- Broadcast
- Fused Material
- Oliver-Up!
Captain Codey
Captain Codey is the final Captain you need to face to complete your Ranger Trainee Card.
He can be found on the top of Mt. Wirral, and you'll need the Vine Climb ability in order to get to him. You can climb Mt. Wirral from the left side of the mountain.
Captain Codey Fight:
- Codey: Arkidd (Glitter), Artillerex (Air)
- Ranger: Apocrowlypse (Glass)
This fight can be a bit tricky due to the fact that Arkidd has the type Glitter. Glitter will change type to whatever attack it receives, basically making you void any debuffs. And that's not all, Arkidd will shoot out Glitter Bomb, which will change the type of your own monsters to Glitter.
The focus of the fight should be getting rid of the Apocrowlypse first. If you attack Apocrowlypse as a Glitter type, it will also change the type of Apocrowlypse to Glitter.
You should have a good relationship with your party member by now; using Fusion will help deal a decent amount of damage to take them out.
Rewards:
- Glitter Bomb
- Fused Material
- Upgrape
