The Purveyor Of Curiosities in Diablo 4 is a great way to earn Legendary Items by collecting Murmuring Obols from events. This guide will explain how this item exchange works and teach you the best ways to earn Murmuring Obols.
Murmuring Obols is a currency in Diablo 4 that you earn by participating in and completing Sanctuary Events.
The Purveyor Of Curiosities
You can find the Purveyor Of Curiosities in most major towns. Look for the icon above.
The Purveyor Of Curiosities will allow you to exchange any Murmuring Obols you have collected in exchange for a chance at getting a rare Legendary item.
You can choose from any of the following item types:
Item Type | Cost |
---|---|
Focus | 40 |
1-Handed Weapon | 50 |
2-Handed Weapon | 75 |
Helmet | 40 |
Chest | 40 |
Gloves | 40 |
Boots | 40 |
Pants | 40 |
Amulet | 60 |
Ring | 60 |
Whispering Key | 20 |
When you purchase an item from Purveyor, you'll be given a random item from that category.
The rate to get a Legendary item is around 25% based on our testing.
Whispering Keys
You may also have noticed that you can also buy Whispering Keys from the Purveyor Of Curiosity.
Whispering Keys unlock Silent Chests, which can be found all over Sanctuary. They offer greater rewards than regular chests, but they are harder to find.
How To Earn Murmuring Obols
The currency needed to exchange items at the Purveyor Of Curiosity is called Murmuring Obols.
You can see how many you have by opening up your Character page and then selecting Materials & Stats tab.
There is a limit to how many Murmuring Obols you can carry at once; when you hit this limit, you'll want to exchange them for items as any new ones you earn will be dropped on the floor.
Sanctuary Events
You earn Murmuring Obols from Sanctuary Events.
These events pop-up randomly around the world; you'll be able to find them by the little orange circles that appear on your mini-map.
Completing an Event successfully nets you between 30-60 Murmuring Obols.
Helltide Events
One of the best ways to earn lots of Murmuring Obols is to participate in a Helltide Event.
When a Helltide Event is active, Sanctuary Events will pop-up much more frequently in that area, allowing you to farm Murmuring Obols much better than if you were just scouring Sanctuary for them.
A good plan is to find a spot where two or three events spawn next to each other, and then just rotate between the three as they become active.
Increasing your Murmuring Obols Cap
You start with a cap of 510 Murmuring Obols that you can carry at once. If you go over that limit, any Murmuring Obols you earn will be dropped on the floor automatically.
You can increase your cap by completing Region Progress tasks. There are five regions that have Murmuring Obols Cap as a reward; they are the fourth tier and you'll need to earn a total of 1400 Renown to unlock it.
Each reward gives you a capacity increase of +80, allowing you to increase your cap to a maximum of 910 Murmuring Obols.
