The Cleric, Priest and Bishop class in MapleStory before the Big Bang update are one of the most popular classes to play in old-school MapleStory and this skill build guide will show you the best way to build your new Magician job.
Before the Big Bang update released in 2010 that reshaped MapleStory’s mechanics and progression systems, playing as a Cleric, Priest, or Bishop was a vastly different experience. These support-focused mages were known for their healing, buffing, and ability to earn millions of mesos, making them an essential class to play.

Cleric, Priest, Bishop Highlights
There are many advantages that Bishops have in old-school MapleStory. If you're planning on making this class, you'll get:
- Great mobility - every Magician class gets the Teleport skill, allowing them to traverse Maple World much easier than many other classes.
- Holy Symbol - This skill gives everyone in the party 1.5x EXP and will be your key to getting into end-game parties.
- Heal - When you reach second job Cleric, you'll be able to kill undead monsters with Heal. You'll also gain skills to make your MP consumption virtually 0, allowing you to not waste money on Potions
You should also be aware of:
- Low HP - Magicians can be slightly "Squishy" with their low HP. But they also get Magic Guard, which basically adds all your MP as HP allowing you to take damage from tougher monsters.
- Costly First Job - First job can be expensive due to having to buy lots of MP pots at the beginning
- Low Damage - You won't be soloing any bosses with a Bishop as it ranks as the lowest DPS class in old-school MapleStory.
Overview
Below is an overview of the Bishop Class.
Main Stat: INT
Secondary Stat: LUK
Weapon: Wand/Staff
Job Branch:
- 1st: Magician (Level 8)
- 2nd: Cleric (Level 30)
- 3rd: Priest (Level 70)
- 4th: Bishop (Level 120)
Assigning AP
A Magician's main stat is INT, but it also requires LUK stat to wear equipment. When Maple Weapons are released, LUK becomes less important as these weapons don't require LUK.
When rolling your stats for character creation, you want to aim for:
- STR: 4
- DEX: 4
- LUK: 4
- INT: 13
However, rolling this is called a "perfect roll", and so you should accept anything with low LUK and high INT to get going.
You get 5 AP per level in MapleStory. A regular AP build for Magician is:
- +4 INT every Level
- +1 LUK every Level
In order to job advance at Level 8 to Magician, you need 20 INT.
Magician First Job Skill Build
At level 8 you can job advance to Magician. It is very important that you do not over-level in old-school MapleStory due to how skills effect your stats on Level up.
Each level up gives you 3 SP and your Job Advancement gives +1 SP.
- Level 8: Magic Bolt +1
- Level 9: Improving MP Recovery +3
- Level 10: Improving MP Recovery +2, Improved MAX MP Increase +1
- Level 11: Improved MAX MPÂ Increase +3
- Level 12: Improved MAX MP Increase +3

- Level 26: Magic Guard +3
- Level 27: Magic Guard +3
- Level 28: Magic Guard +3
- Level 29: Magic Guard +3
- Level 30: Magic Guard +3
Your first SP you get for Job Advancing should be put into Magic Bolt, allowing you to deal more damage to low-level enemies. Then you need to put 5 SP into Improving MP Recovery to unlock Improved MAX MP Increase skill.
Improved MAX MP Increase will give you additional MP stats on Level Up, so it's vital to max this skill as soon as possible. If you miss this skill out in the early levels, you'll be sacrificing MP Stats that you won't be able to get back.
After that, max out Improving MP Recovery so that you rely less on MP Pots and then finally around Level 17 you can start maxing out your main attack skill Magic Claw.
You'll then use the rest of your points to max out Magic Guard, which isn't very useful yet but will be vital once you hit Level 70+.
Cleric - Second Job Skill Build
Once you reach Level 30 as a Magician, you can then job advance to second job. Magicians have a choice of Ice/Lightning Mage, Fire/Poison Mage or Cleric.
Like most second job classes, Cleric starts off slow but then turns into a powerhouse at around Level 40.
Follow this skill build:
- Level 30: Teleport +1
- Level 31: Heal +3
- Level 32: Heal +3
- Level 33: Heal +3

- Level 66: Invincible +3
- Level 67: Invincible +1, Holy Arrow +2
- Level 68: Holy Arrow +3
- Level 69: Holy Arrow +3
- Level 70: Holy Arrow +3
Add your first point into Teleport to help with mobility, though it will be expensive and the range isn't too good. Heal will not be useful until around Level 36-37, so you'll still want to be training with Magic Claw until you can deal significant damage to undead monsters.
Next you have a choice between maxing Teleport or MP Eater. MP Eater will save you money on pots, virtually you won't be using any once it's fully maxed. However, if you're funded, you can max Teleport earlier to gain better mobility.
Then comes Bless for support in LPQ and other party scenarios. Finally, Invincible adds some damage reduction and the last few points will go into Holy Arrow, which you won't use much.
Priest - Third Job Skill Build Guide
At Level 70, you can job advance to third job.
This is where you start to shine as a Priest will give you a new damage attacking skill and the best support skill in the game: Holy Symbol.

- Level 117: Mystic Door +3
- Level 118: Mystic Door +3
- Level 119: Mystic Door +3
- Level 120: Mystic Door +2, Doom +1
As a Priest, you max all your skills apart from Doom. Doom will turn monsters into Snails for a short period of time, which isn't very useful in 3rd job.
You'll want to max Holy Symbol as quick as possible to benefit from the increase EXP and start getting you into parties. Then you max your attacking skill Shining Ray; it deals more damage than heal but you'll likely want to combine Heal+Shining Ray into your rotation to prevent you from dying.
If you're funded, you can turn on Magic Guard to help tank stronger hits from high-level mobs.
Summon Dragon is fairly useless in terms of damage, but it's cute and can help clear a mob or two. Mystic Door will allow you to teleport to town easier and Dispel is vital for bossing.
Bishop - Fourth Job Skill Build Guide
In fourth job, Magicians are the best mob attackers in the entire game. They come with overpowered full-map attack skills that out perform every other class in MapleStory.
Fourth job is slightly different to other jobs in that you need to obtain Skill Books to increase the max level of a skill and also take on a few quests to unlock others. This guide assumes you have everything maxed out, but whilst waiting for skill books you can improve other skills.

Genesis is a Bishop's main mobbing skill and will be until you reach max level 200. It's the best skill in the whole of MapleStory, so maxing it out as soon as possible is essential.
Bishop's get a few other useful skills: Resurrection will revive a party member, but it has a lengthy cooldown. Bahamut is an upgraded summon useful for finishing off mobs near you.
Maple Warrior has a max level of 30, but in some versions only Level 20 was released. This is probably the second most important skill for Bishops as it increases stat by %, so max it as early as you can.
Angel Ray and Big Bang are sub-par damage dealing skills, so not too useful here unless bossing. Infinity gives you infinity mana for a short period of time to help with pot costs.
