MapleStory Gollux Guide

Gollux is a boss in MapleStory that drops some of the best gear in the game and it's a boss that's available early on. Defeating Gollux can be quite a challenge, so this boss guide will teach you all the mechanics you need to know in order to defeat him.

Gollux has been in MapleStory GMS for quite a while, first releasing in patch MapleStory - Dawnveil: Demons of Tynerum in 2013! It has since gone through a few revamps, making it more accessible whilst still providing some of th best loot in the game.

It was completely revamped in Patch V.213, with increased HP but allowing you to obtain multiple copies of the Gollux Equipment.

The prequests for Gollux have been completely scrapped! All you need to do now is accept a quest from your Lightbulb notifier: (Lv. 180) [Gollux] The Cracks of Corruption.

For many end-game players, the goal is to get the Superior Gollux items which can be purchased from either Gollux's shop or dropped by the boss's most difficult mode: Hell. Check out the MapleStory Progression Guide for more details on Gollux gear.

Unlike most bosses in MapleStory, Gollux does not drop a Boss Crystal or allow you to select the difficulty from the Boss UI.

Gollux Boss Mechanics

Gollux is quite a strange boss compared to other MapleStory bosses.

You can start doing Gollux from Level 200.

You can enter Gollux once per day. If you die, you cannot retry until the next day. You only get 5 Lives.

You enter Gollux by talking to Heart Tree Guardian and receiving a Fallen Gollux Key Replica. Then you enter the portal above Gollux's Corrupted Heart in the same map.

Gollux Map

The Gollux Boss Area is made up of several maps. Your aim is to get to the Heart, where you will find a portal to take on Gollux's Head. To get to Gollux's Head, you need to travel from the various maps of Gollux. You will always start at his feet, and need to travel upwards.

Each area you enter has some mobs you need to clear out before you can proceed to the next.

The difficulty of Gollux is determined by how many body parts you defeat or don't defeat along the way.

• 0 body parts - Hell Mode
• 1 body part - Hard Mode
• 2 body part - Normal Mode
• 3 Body Part - Easy Mode

Gollux has three body parts you can take out. Defeating any one of them will then remove a specific ability from Gollux's head when you challenge him.

• Abdomen - Breath
• Right Shoulder - Hand Attack
• Left Shoulder - Hand Attack

If you want to fight Hell Gollux, you need to not defeat any body parts. Hell Gollux has the most HP and all his boss mechanics when you face him.

To get to the Gollux's Heart without defeating any body part, you can go to the Right, Right, Left (middle) and you'll find yourself at Gollux's Heart area. Once you enter the portal, you will then face Gollux's Head. You can leave the fight at any time to return to the fight via the Portal.

You have 30 minutes to defeat Gollux.

Gollux's Head

Gollux's Head is the main boss fight.

Depending on the difficulty you are fighting and which body parts you have destroyed, you'll be faced with the following Mechanics:

Phase 1

In phase 1, you attack Gollux from the bottom floor. Either side of you monsters (Corrupted Veilstone Golem) will spawn and slowly creep towards the middle. If they reach the middle, you will get a mark. 5 Marks and you're dead.

Gollux will perform several different attacks, all of which you can dodge by jumping to the opposite side of the map just before they are performed. You need to learn the different Gollux Animations in order to dodge correctly. In takes practise, but it is rather simple.

All of the below Gollux' attacks can be dodged by watching Gollux's Eyes. Whenever his eyes light up, he is about to perform a random attack. As soon as they light up, jump to the opposite side of the map.

• Gollux Breath - Gollux will breath out a plume of purple smoke in the direction of you. Getting hit will deal 90% damage and stun you for several seconds.
• Gollux Suck In - Gollux will suck you in. Getting hit will 1-hit KO you.
• Gollux Hand - Gollux's hand will come up from the ground. Getting hit will 1-hit KO you.

Phase 2

In Phase 2, Gollux's middle platform opens up. You can either up-jump to reach it or use the portal at the center of Gollux on the bottom platform.

This phase requires you to manage both platforms, whilst dodging Gollux's arm attack.

The mobs below will keep spawning and drift slowly to the center. You will need to periodically jump back down to wipe them out, or risk getting marked.

TIP: You can use a deployable summon to help prevent the mobs from getting you marks.

The trick to phase 2 is to stand on the outer edge of the middle platform on the left. Here you are immune to most of Gollux's attacks, apart from the Arm attack. When you see the arm moving towards you, jump off the platform to dodge it.

• Gollux Eruption - Caused you to have inverted controls and deals 90% Damage
• Gollux Arm - Gollux's Arm will reach up either to the middle platform or the bottom platform, depending on where you were standing last. Getting hit is 1-hit KO.
• Gollux Floor Spikes - Gollux will fire up floor spikes on the bottom platform. Getting hit is 1-hit KO.

Phase 3

Phase 3 is a burst phase. You will have to attack the gem on Gollux's Head and you have a short 60-second timer to deal enough damage to clear it.

During this time, the mobs below will continue to spawn but Gollux will no longer attack you.

Gollux Shop

Gollux has two shops in which you can spend your Gollux Coins and Gollux Pennys.

You can earn Gollux Coins by defeating Gollux on Hard and Hell mode. You can also earn a few by completing the beginner Gollux Quests.

Gollux Pennys drop from defeating body parts of Gollux.
