The Corsair pirate job branch is a range class that became popular due to their high DPS in old-school MapleStory before the Big Bang Update. This skill build guide will show you the best skills to max in order to make leveling the class much easier!
Corsair arrived in 2008 MapleStory GMS, and along with Buccaneers, were the first new class introduced to the game since it was released. It also came with a brand new region called Nautilus on Victoria Island.
Corsair is a hybrid of Night Lords and Bowmasters, struggling initially in the first three job advancements before gaining significant DPS in 4th job. It is not the most popular class in old-school MapleStory, but with dedication can be a powerhouse to take down bosses.
With the release of MapleStory Worlds, you can now play Pirate classes as they were before the Big Bang Update on servers like Artale.
If you're looking for the Modern version of this class, check out the Corsair Skill Build Guide.
Pirate, Gunslinger, Outlaw, Corsair Highlights
Corsair are a range class that uses Gun and Bullets as their weapon types to deal damage.
If you want to create a Corsair, here are some of the benefits you'll get when playing this class:
- Dash Skill - A skill that gives passive speed increase.
- High DPS - Once you reach 4th job, you become one of the strongest classes in MapleStory.
Some of the disadvantages of playing a Pirate:
- Medium HP - They have better HP than Mages and Thiefs, but not better than Warrior classes.
- Slow Leveling - The first three job advancements of Corsair are slow to level due to low damage skills
- No Party Buffs - You won't have any party buffs for bossing.
Overview
Main Stat: DEX
Secondary Stat: STR
Weapon: Gun
Job Branch:
- Pirate (Level 10)
- Gunslinger (Level 30)
- Outlaw (Level 70)
- Corsair (Level 120)
Assigning AP
A Corsair's main stat is DEX that boosts damage. But you'll also need STR for wearing equipment.
When rolling your stats for character creation, you want to aim for:
- STR: 4
- DEX: 13
- LUK: 4
- INT: 4
However, a Pirate needs 20 DEX in order to job advance, so you can safely roll anything that has 4 LUK and 4 INT and the rest in the other two stats.
You get 5 AP per level in MapleStory. A regular AP build for Pirate is:
- +4 DEX every Level
- +1 STR every Level
You'll want to cap your STR at around 70 and then gain STR from Equipments in order to equip high-level equipment.
