Chief Bandit was an essential bossing class in old school MapleStory before the Big Bang Update and this skill build guide will outline the best skills you will want to max out as you advance into the fourth job Shadower class.

- Shadower - Fourth Job Skill Build Guide
In 3rd Job, Cheif Bandit was one of the most highly sought after classes for bossing due to their powerful Meso Explosion ability that allowed them to deal significant damage by using mesos. They also have some of the coolest second-job skills in the game and were very popular before Hermits overtook them.
With the release of MapleStory Worlds, many players can now play old school MapleStory on servers like Artale.
If you're looking for the Modern version of this class, check out the Shadower Skill Build Guide.
Bandit, Chief Bandit and Shadower Hightlights
Playing a Chief Bandit and Shadower provides some significant bossing abilities that will get you into most parties in old-school MapleStory. If you're planning on creating one, here is what you need to know.
If you want to create a Shadower, here are some of the benefits you'll get when playing this class:
- Meso Explosion - The ability to blow up hundreds of thousands of mesos during bossing to deal significant damage make you a wanted party member
- Smokescreen - As you advance to Shadower, Smokescreen allows everyone in the party to avoid bossing attacks for a short period.
- Haste - They provide two useful support skills: Haste which increases the speed at which characters can move and Meso Up, which increases the amount of Mesos that drop from mobs
- Dark Sight - Able to become invincible in Dark Sight Mode without taking any damage
Some of the disadvantages of playing a Hermit:
- Costly - Meso Explosion is a costly skill and is generally only used during bossing due to the rewards you get
- Low HP - Like mages, Thieves have low HP, making them very squishy and easy to die.
Overview
Main Stat: LUK
Secondary Stat: DEX
Third Stat: STR
Weapon: Claw
Job Branch:
- Rogue (Level 10)
- Bandit (Level 30)
- Chief Bandit (Level 70)
- Shadower (Level 120)
Assigning AP
A Thief's main stat is LUK that boosts damage. But you'll also need DEX for wearing equipment and hitting mobs due to Thief's low accuracy.
When rolling your stats for character creation, you want to aim for:
- STR: 4
- DEX: 4
- LUK: 13
- INT: 4
However, a Thief needs 25 DEX in order to job advance, so you can safely roll anything that has 4 STR and 4 INT and the rest in the other two stats.
You get 5 AP per level in MapleStory. A regular AP build for Thief is:
- +4 LUK every Level
- +1 DEX every Level
However, you need at least 25 DEX in order to job advance, so you'll want to put +2 DEX and +3 LUK in the first 10 levels until you reach 25 DEX.
You'll want to cap your dex at around 70 and then gain DEX from Equipments in order to equip high-level equipment.
You also need some STR to equip end-game weapons; most of STR you can get from equips but you may need to add some AP into STR after 3rd/4th job.
Rogue - First Job Skill Build Guide
At Level 10, you can job advance to a Rogue by talking to the Dark Lord in Kerning City. You have the choice of either using a Claw or Dagger as a Thief, but since this guide is for a Shadower, you'll want to use a Dagger.
Each level up gives you 3 SP and your Job Advancement gives +1 SP.

You can use the Hermit Skill Build instead in 1st job if you prefer to be known as a "SinDit" in your early levels.
This build uses Double Stab instead as your main attacking skill. Once maxed, you then max Nimble Body for accuracy and finally Dark Sight to be able to hide from attacks in bossing.
Bandit - Second Job Skill Build
At Level 30, you can do the second job advancement and become a Bandit or Assassin. Since we want to eventually become a Shadower, choose Bandit.

- Level 70: Steal +2, Dark Sight +1
In second job, your main attacking skill is Savage Blow. You'll want to add some points into this early on to get that damage boost, and then add some points into Dagger Booster to improve attack speed.
Once you max Savage Blow, then max Dagger Mastery for damage boost. You can max Haste instead if you're doing Ludibrium Party Quest.
Once Haste is maxed, then finish off Dagger Booster before maxing Steal (which you won't be using very often).

- Level 118: Chakra +3

- Level 120: Chakra +3
As a Chief Bandit, you have the choice of either maxing Meso Explosion or Band Of Thieves first. Both are very good mobbing skills, but with Meso Explosion maxed early you can get taken along to Zakum Runs sooner (providing you can survive!).
Meso Guard will allow you to reduce any incoming damage by a %, essentially increasing your HP. Assaulter is great for zipping around maps when there are mobs present, so we add a point early into it before maxing it.
Pickpocket will increase the amount of mesos dropped and Chakra helps with potion costs.
Shadower - Fourth Job Skill Build Guide

Fourth job is slightly different to other jobs in that you need to obtain Skill Books to increase the max level of a skill and also take on a few quests to unlock others. This guide assumes you have everything maxed out, but whilst waiting for skill books you can improve other skills.

- Level 199: Ninja Ambush +3
- Level 200: Ninja Ambush +3
Your main mobbing skill as a Shadower is Boomerang Step and so you'll want to max this as early as possible. Adding Level 10 Maple Warrior early is also good for easy damage boost.
Shadow Shifter will increase your avoid massively, saving you on potion costs and increasing survivability during bosses.
Assassinate is your main bossing skill, so you may want to max this earlier if you plan on doing bosses during the earlier levels. Smokescreen is also a highly valuable bossing skill that allows all party members to avoid attacks for a period of time.
Taunt increases EXP and Item Drop Rate, so again, whilst waiting on certain skill books to become available, you might want to add points into it early.
Venomous Stab should be maxed last, and then Ninja Ambush is pretty useless.
