MapleStory Universe has just opened their website up to players to participate in Beta events, only with the caveat that most countries will find themselves blocked from accessing it.
MapleStory Universe is a NFT/blockchain project that is launching this year, allowing players to earn items in game, trade them on the blockchain and potentially earn money just by playing.
For the last couple of months, MapleStory Universe has been teasing the release of the game, creating a brand new Discord for supporters, getting fans to participate in events and teasing the game.
Unfortunately, on 24th June 2024, MapleStory Universe announced a list of restricted countries which would not be allowed to play the game:
Afghanistan, Algeria, Austria, Bangladesh, Belgium, Bolivia, Bulgaria, China, Croatia, Crimea, Cuba, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Donetsk, Dominican Republic, Egypt, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Ghana, Greece, Hungary, Iran, Iraq, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Lugansk, Malta, Morocco, Netherlands, Nepal, North Korea, Oman, Pakistan, Poland, Portugal, Qatar, Romania, Russia, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Syria, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates, Ukraine, United Kingdom, United States, Vietnam
This list includes most European countries and the whole of the United States.
Countries which can play are mostly from the SEA region like Indonisia,Thailand, Myanmar and Philippines. It looks like users from India can also participate.
Whilst it's not 100% clear why all these countries have been restricted, Discord mods have given the explanation that it is due to complying with local laws. With the game being heavily integrated with Cryptocurrency, many countries have restrictions on what you can and can't do with Crypto.
Hopefully with time we'll see some of these restrictions lifted.
If you are not from a banned country, you can currently participate in MapleStory Universe Quest.BETA event, allowing players to create their characters in the dress-up room, complete quests for points and link their cryptocurrency wallet.
Sadly, since we are from a banned country, we won't be reporting much more on the project as we don't have access to the site/game.
