Free Gems Guide - IdleOn

April 10, 2025

This guide will list all the ways you can get FREE Gems in IdleOn, allowing you to play the game without paying any real money! Gems helps significantly speed up progress in IdleOn, so you'll want to make use of all free-to-play Gem methods.

IdleOn Gems are a currency that can be used to purchase items from the Gem Shop, where some of the best items in the game reside.

Gem Prices

You can pay for Gems using real life money or you can earn Gems for free in-game using a variety of different methods.

Earning Gems in-game is obviously significantly slower than just out-right buying them, but you can still earn between 500-1000 per week if you're persistent enough.

If you want to know what the best packs and items to buy in the Gem Shop, check out our Gem Shop Tier List guide.

How To Get Free Gems in IdleOn

Here are all the methods you can get FREE Gems in IdleOn without having to spend real money.

Boss Drops

Boss Drops

Gems Earned: 50 Gems /day

There are currently 5 World Bosses available in IdleOn and all of them can drop Gems.

Gems Bonus

To have a boss drop Gems, you must first unlock the World 2 Merit Shop bonus that makes World Bosses drop Gems.

The first three bosses have a daily quest that allows you to collect up to 1 Boss Keys per day per character (allowing you to get up to 30 keys per day!)

The other two bosses from World 4 and World 5 drop their boss keys from mobs, so you can farm an unlimited amount.

If you defeat 50-100 Bosses per day, you could end up with a nice pile of 50 Gems! The difficulty doesn't increase the amount of Gems you earn from each boss, so you're better off farming the normal version.

The easiest boss to kill is Amarok and Chizoar, since their mechanics won't get in the way and slow you down.

Alchemy Shop

Free Gem Alchemy

Gems Earned: 10/ day

The Alchemy Shop in World 2 allows you to buy Gems with Liquids you generate passively.

When you start to generate hundreds of liquids per day, you can use this to your advantage to buy Gems.

You can buy 1 Gem for 5 Water Droplets. Each time you purchase this, the cost increases by alot. The cost will reset each day however, allowing you to buy 2-4 Gems per day.

You can also buy 2 Gems for 5 Trench Seawater liquids. Again, the cost increases with each purchase and resets each day. You can get around 4-10 Gems per day.

Colosseum

Colosseum Free Gems

Gems Earned: 8/ day

There is a Colosseum in each world and all of them drop Gems as rewards from their Treasure Chests.

You can get up to 3 Tickets per day, which can be doubled with The Upgrade Vault bonus: Duplicate Entries.

Each World Colosseum costs a number of tickets to enter. Depending on your end-score, you'll be rewarded with a number of Treasure Chests that can contain Gems.

You're best to take your Divine Knight and use their skill Orb of Remembrance to increase drop rate for opening chests in World 1 Colosseum.

Colosseum:

  • Dewdrop Colosseum (World 1): 1 Ticket
  • Sandstone Colosseum (World 2): 2 Tickets
  • Chillsnap Colosseum (World 3): 3 Tickets
  • Astro Colosseum (World 4): 6 Tickets
  • Molten Colosseum (World 5): 10 Tickets
  • Whimsicial Colosseum (World 6): 30 Tickets

Spikes Minigame

Spiketrap Surprise

Gems Earned: 20 /day

At the top of every hour you can participate in a mini-game.

Type the following: If u love me let me go

You'll then be teleported to the mini-game map, which will start at :00.

The aim of the game is to avoid the spikes, which will randomly appear on a platform in the map. The more spikes you avoid, the more Gems you'll earn.

You can only earn Gems once per day from the game.

Level-Up Gift Bubble

Level Up Gift Bubble

Gems Earned: 5 /day

As soon as you can, you should unlock the Yellow Bubble: LEVEL UP GIFT.

This is a big bubble, so you need to manually activate it for each character (unless you have unlocked the Pet Companion Sheepie, which makes all active bubbles passive too!).

Now every time you level up on one of your characters, you'll be given a random gift, which can include 1 Gem.

This also works for when you Level-up skills too, so with 10 IdleOn characters all leveling up something, you can easily earn a few extra Gems!

Mini-Bosses

Biggie hoursMutated MushKing Doot

Gems Earned: 40 / week

There are several mini-bosses you can take out each week that can drop Gems.

Each mini-boss will require a specific mechanic/item in order to summon it, and usually these mechanics are locked behind dailies.

You can view all the IdleOn Monsters that drop Gems on our Gem Item Drop page.

Arcade

Arcade

Gems: 5 /day

Each day you can claim around 30 Arcade Balls to play the Arcade Mini-Game.

You're not guaranteed Gems from this, but you can earn a couple each day.

You can earn Gems from any of the Arcade buckets after the default normal buckets. The Red Bucket gives up to 250 Gems and if you're really lucky, you can win the Jackpot of 2,000 Gems!

Events

Gift BoxGift BoxGift Box

Gems Earned: 50 /day

Events are always coming and going in IdleOn, so this method isn't always available.

However, when an Event is active in IdleOn, you can usually hope to earn around 50 Gems per day. At the time of writing this, there is the 4th Anniversary Event, which is giving out around 50-100 Gems per day from opening Gift Boxes!

Event notices are usually announced in game, so keep logging in each day to see when one becomes available.

Quests

Gems Earned: 1 /day

There are several IdleOn Quests that give out Gems upon completing them, however, there is also a Daily Quest you can complete.

Head to World 1 Froggy Fields and speak to the Picnic NPC. The quest line has around 7 quests you'll need to complete before you get your Gem.

Guild Giftbox

Guild Gifts

Gems Earned: 30 /week

If you join a Guild, each week you can get free Guild Giftboxes added to your Storage Chest.

These giftboxes can give a decent amount of Gems when opened (they can also give no gems!).

Join a high-level guild that has invested into the Guild Skill: Guild Gifts.

Journeyman Skill

Gems Earned: 1 /day

If you have managed to unlock the Journeyman class, they have a skill called Its Your Birthday.

When cast, it has a chance to give you a reward, which is usually a free Gem! It also has a chance to be recast multiple times, so you could earn a couple of Gems every day.

One-Off Gem Rewards

One-Off Free Gems

There are also several ways to get free Gems, but these methods below can only be completed once. Still, if you're pushing to get a specific item in the Gem Shop, these might help get you over the line.

  • Steam Achievements - If you play on Steam, several of the World 1 Achievements give out Gem Rewards.
  • Task Unlocks - Unlocks in the Tasks Unlock section give a decent amount of gems.
  • Free 100 Gems - Click the Menu and select Options. Then select Watch Twitch and Discord buttons for a free 50 Gems a piece.
  • Gem Contests - Join the IdleOn Discord for a chance to win Gems in contests

If you know any more methods for earning FREE Gems, post in the comments below and we'll update this guide!
